Chief Secretary Durga Shankar Mishra said that the coming time belongs to electric vehicles. The EV charging infrastructure will have to be increased in the same proportion as the demand for e-vehicles is constantly increasing. The government is making efforts to make UP a center for the manufacture of electric vehicles. It is also important for the environment that e-vehicles are promoted.
He was addressing a seminar on EV charging way ahead organised by UP Renewable and EV Infrastructure Ltd. (UPRev) at a hotel in Gomti Nagar on Wednesday. He said that to encourage people in the state, subsidy is being given on all types of e-vehicles.
He said that the target is to bring 30 percent e-vehicles on the roads in the state by the year 2030 i.e. in the next six years. Ashok Leyland is setting up a plant for manufacturing electric vehicles in Lucknow. Production will start in two years. Tata Motors is already present in the capital. At the same time, UPRev has been formed for infrastructure and better services for charging e-vehicles. It will create such a charging eco-system in the state.
He said that charging of e-vehicles takes time. In such a situation, there should be a place for cafe, entertainment, sitting and rest at the charging center. Such arrangements will have to be made every 25 km on highways and expressways as well. Currently, e-vehicles are running in 15 cities of the state. A target of 2000 e-vehicles has been set in the Urban Transport Corporation under the Urban Development Department.
G20 Sherpa Abhitabh Kant said that the 10 big cities of the state, namely Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, Agra, Ghaziabad, Noida, Prayagraj, Ayodhya, Meerut and Gorakhpur, have the maximum opportunities for e-vehicles. He said that health problems are increasing due to smoke. Due to this, the average lifespan of a person has decreased by eight years.
Infrastructure and Industrial Development Commissioner Manoj Kumar Singh said that electric vehicle charging infrastructure is growing rapidly in the state. This will help in generating employment as well as attracting big investments.
UP Power Corporation Chairman Dr. Ashish Kumar Goyal, India Smart Grid Forum Chairman Riji Kumar Pillai, River Front Authority Chairman and Urban Planning Advisor Keshav Verma and UPPCL Managing Director Pankaj Kumar etc were present in the seminar.
